How to study with a timer
- Give each round one job. "Chapter 4 practice questions" works better than "biology", because you'll know when you're done.
- Put your phone out of reach before you press Start. Face down on the desk is still within reach.
- Study until the chime. If you remember something you need to do, write it on a scrap of paper and keep going.
- Use the break to move: stand up and get some water. Scrolling your phone doesn't count.
- After four rounds, take the long break. Four rounds is close to two hours of focused study, which is a solid session.
Count rounds instead of hours
"Study for three hours" is easy to start and hard to finish. "Do four rounds" gives you a clear finish line, and the counter under the timer keeps track of where you are.
Plan tomorrow's study tonight
Pick tomorrow's topic before bed. When you sit down the next day you can start straight away instead of working out what to study first. Dayflint is built around this habit.
Dayflint for iPhone and Android
Your study plan, one thing a day.
Each evening Dayflint asks one question: if you only got one thing done tomorrow, what would it be? Type "Revise chapter 4" and go to bed. In the morning, press and hold to start a 25-minute focus session and put your phone face down.
- 25-minute focus sessions, free
- 50 and 90 minute sessions with Dayflint Plus
- A weekly rest day, so one missed day doesn't reset your streak
